The BEANS Meta Network, hosted and managed by the CIHEAM General Secretariat, will operate as a regional collaborative hub. The structure of the Network will be streamlined, featuring a participatory and inclusive approach to ensure broad input from all relevant partners and stakeholders.
The organizational structure of BEANS will consist of the following
components:
The General Assembly (GA)
1. Role and Responsibilities
The General Assembly will be responsible for discussing ongoing and
future programs, providing strategic insights and recommendations,
approving annual programs, and endorsing the annual budget. It will
ensure the network’s direction aligns with the overall goals and objectives
of BEANS.
2. Composition
The General Assembly will comprise three groups of stakeholders:
Group 1: International and Regional Organizations
Actions: Provide technical and political orientation for the Network’s
agenda, ensuring alignment with global and regional agricultural policies.
Group 2: National Agricultural Institutions and Research Centers
Actions: Contribute to setting priorities for research, development, and
policy implementation. Offer insights from national and local contexts.
Group 3: Experts, Leading Farmers, and Private Enterprises
Actions: Provide expertise on practical applications, research orientation,
innovations, and market dynamics. Offer feedback on the Network’s
operational effectiveness.
3. Expected Actions and Engagement
Each Group will play a critical role in shaping the Network's direction, and
their activities will be essential in ensuring smooth operation. The
expected actions for each group are outlined below.
General Assembly and Groups Meetings
All group meetings will meet online to facilitate regular communication (1 or 2
per year). The General Assembly may be held at least once per year, in
person, provided funds are available to support such a gathering.
The Executive Committee (EC)
The Executive Committee will manage the operational aspects of the
Network and oversee the implementation of the policies and decisions made
by the General Assembly, while aligning with external opportunities and
constraints. The EC will also strengthen BEANS’ role within broader
innovative approaches towards Sustainable Food-Legumes Systems in the
Mediterranean.
The Executive Committee will be chaired by the Secretary General of
CIHEAM and will include a part-time Manager appointed by the Chair, in
addition to three members nominated by each of the three groups within the
General Assembly.
